Arsenal winning the Premier League this season would be even better than the ‘Invincibles’, says Gunners star Gael Clichy

Gael Clichy was a member of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ squad but the defender believes winning the Premier League this season would be a bigger achievement than 2004.

The Gunners went through the entire campaign without losing a match six years ago, winning 26 and drawing 12 before finishing 11 points ahead of closest challengers Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger’s side looked out of the title race earlier this season but they now sit just two points behind leaders Manchester United with nine games to go. Chelsea are on the same points as Arsenal having played a game less. @Dailymail

Moyes still hopes to keep Donovan

Everton manager David Moyes believes there is still a chance he could extend United States winger Landon Donovan’s loan spell at Goodison Park.

Donovan is currently set to return to LA Galaxy after Everton’s Premier League clash against Birmingham this weekend at the end of his loan.

The 28-year-old has impressed during his time with the Toffees, scoring twice in nine league appearances and produced a string of influential displays. @Soccerway

Manchester City seal £1bn deal to transform Eastlands and surrounding area

Manchester City have signed a £1billion agreement with Manchester City Council to develop land around their Eastlands stadium.

The massive scheme will transform one of the poorest areas of the city, creating thousands of jobs as the site is turned into a world class sports and leisure complex.

Almost since the moment Sheikh Mansour completed his takeover of City in 2008 there have been suggestions that he wanted to develop spare land around the stadium, with a new training ground among the ideas that have been mentioned. @Dailymail

Fergie expects Hargreaves and Giggs back next week

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is confident Owen Hargreaves will finally end his injury nightmare in a reserve match against Burnley next week and also revealed Ryan Giggs is almost ready to return to action.

Hargreaves had been pencilled in to face Manchester City reserves on Thursday evening after 18 months out with a knee injury. But the England midfielder was pulled out of the match, sparking fears he may have suffered another setback.

But Ferguson, who withdrew the former Bayern Munich player from his Champions League squad in January, said Hargreaves missed the match to keep a specialist appointment and the Scot expects his injury-plagued star to make his long-awaited comeback against Burnley’s reserves next week. @Soccerway

Chelsea’s reunion with Jose Mourinho will be extra special… for the Blues: Bullish John Terry predicts defeat of Inter Milan

Captain John Terry is convinced Chelsea can end Jose Mourinho’s bid for Champions League glory when the former Blues boss makes returns to Stamford Bridge next week.

Mourinho’s Inter will arrive in London on Monday holding a 2-1 advantage from the first-leg of their last-16 tie at the San Siro.

It will be the first return to Stamford Bridge for Mourinho since September 2007, when he departed after leading the club to every domestic honour including successive Barclays Premier League triumphs in 2005 and 2006.

Terry, who scored in the FA Cup victory over Stoke last weekend, is confident Chelsea can overcome Inter’s slender lead and reach the last eight of the tournament at the expense of the ‘Special One’. @Dailymail

Milan no longer able to mask the decline of Italian clubs’ fortunes

Milan had come to fail. Despondency was close to the surface and bound to overwhelm the side as soon as Manchester United scored. The visitors were diligent enough, but they could not fend off a weariness of soul and body in the 4‑0 loss. Too much has rested on them for too long.

In the past six seasons Milan have won the European Cup, lost a final, gone out in the semi-finals and featured in the last 16. They have done everything feasible to shore up the standing of Italian football. There are too many veterans in Leonardo’s squad, but even hyperactive youths would have buckled under that workload. @Guardian

Samuel Eto’o Back To Haunt Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Barcelona will be minus the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a crucial encounter against Valencia on Sunday, which might be a blessing given his form at the moment. Pep Guardiola’s side actually played better down a man in Almeria last week following Ibrahimovic’s sending off for elbowing Domingo Cisma in the face, and the Swede hasn’t performed well in several weeks.

In the long run, Guardiola knows he needs his talented striker back on track, but Ibrahimovic seems to be carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. Not only has his lousy play contributed greatly to Barca’s sputtering form of late, it hass brought back a debate that appeared to be settled earlier this season. @Goal

This is our moment says Mancini

For Roberto Mancini, the phrase “there are no easy games anymore” could have been written for City’s quest to qualify for the Champions League.

After a fortnight’s hiatus following that superb win over Chelsea, the Blues now begin the final 11 games of the season with Aston Villa, Liverpool and Spurs also within touching distance of the coveted fourth place in the Barclays Premier League table.

That sequence of matches starts with a visit to the Stadium of Light on Sunday, but the Manager is expecting anything but an easy ride against a side undoubtedly buoyed by a 4-0 win at home over Bolton earlier this week. @Man City

‘Madrid money does not guarantee success’

If you believe the Beatles, money can’t buy you love. And on the evidence of this week, it can’t buy you the Champions League either.

No club – not even super-rich Manchester City – has spent more in the past 12 months than Real Madrid. The Spanish giants splashed in excess of £200million last summer on Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Raul Albiol, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema and yet, for the sixth year in succession, Madrid have crashed out of the Champions League in the first knockout round.

Arsène Wenger watched Madrid’s stellar cast succumb to Lyon 2-1 on aggregate on Wednesday night and you could forgive the Arsenal manager a wry smile – after all, he has taken his team to the Quarter-Finals or beyond in each of the past five seasons despite spending a relative pittance in the transfer market. @Arsenal

Wayne Rooney eyeing World Cup prize: England hitman missing Manchester United training to battle burn out

Wayne Rooney is missing training sessions with Manchester United to ensure he goes to the World Cup in peak condition.

Rooney, who came face to face with the World Cup trophy in London yesterday, will carry the hopes of the nation when England head for South Africa this summer.

The 24-year-old has been in such outstanding form for United it has raised fears among England fans that he cannot maintain the same standard right through to June.

But Rooney has revealed that he has cut down on the amount of training he does at United to ensure he stays fresh. @Dailymail
